Our Commitment to Horse Welfare
The sale of racehorses for slaughter is a distasteful and inhumane act. Eliminating this practice from racing requires accountability across trainers, owners, and track ownership. At Delta Downs, we are committed to being part of the solution.
We have a strict anti-slaughter policy, and we will enforce it. Owners and trainers who are found to have knowingly sold a horse to slaughter are subject to permanent revocation of their stall privileges. We will punish violators of our policy accordingly.
We are committed to aiding in the process of finding loving homes for retired horses. We provide an alternative to selling retired racehorses into slaughter by providing owners/trainers with information on rehoming resources. Through open communication with the horsemen who race at our facility, we strive to make it easy for them to connect with the local and regional organizations who specialize in the retirement of these amazing athletes.
We are committed to being a part of the solution – and we invite you to join us. We believe that every horse that races at our track deserves to find a good, loving home when it retires. Whether you choose to provide financial assistance or simply volunteer, we invite you to join us in supporting the efforts of rehoming organizations as we all strive to achieve this vision.
